Caponnetto Hueber has developed an innovative foldable hydrofoil architecture designed to address the most critical practical limitations faced by foiling yachts currently in operation. The system enables larger span foils while allowing full retraction both for harbour operations and sailing scenarios requiring reduced draft or enhanced safety. The solution is currently patent pending.
Conventional foiling systems are limited by vessel beam constraints and suffer from operational challenges related to fouling, cleaning, maintenance and draft limitations in shallow or confined waters.
Caponnetto Hueber dedicated substantial R&D resources to rethinking foil deployment architectures and created a foldable system capable of increasing foil span beyond traditional beam boundaries, while enabling full, safe and controlled retraction.
The new patent pending foldable foil configuration enables improved performance, extended autonomy, and operational flexibility. It enhances usability in real-world scenarios, from harbour conditions to heavy weather safety modes.
This approach de-risks the adoption of foiling across a wider range of vessel categories, making high-performance hydrofoil technology more accessible, more efficient and more practical for everyday maritime use.
The development intends to align with future regulation for retractable appendages, and supports scalability for both electric and combustion propulsion configurations, enabling reduced emissions and more energy efficient marine mobility.
This foldable hydrofoil system eliminates key barriers that have so far limited foiling in broader market adoption, opening a path towards safer, more flexible and more sustainable hydrofoil-enabled craft.
Always searching for new concepts and practical efficient solutions, significant R & D resources are spent by our team of engineers to improve our current solutions and systems.
In this context, CH has developed a solution which solve the main drawbacks of foiling crafts currently in operation
CH has developed an innovative Foldable Hydrofoil System (patent pending) that include many advantages for a foiling yacht
This innovative system can be used with electric propulsion to increase the performance, range or autonomy or adapted to combustion propulsion, decreasing the fuel consumption and the emissions.
The system enables to solve most of practical concerns of the foiling configurations and solutions currently available on the market.
During the 33rd America’s Cup cycle, Mario Caponnetto contributed to hydrodynamic assessment workstreams aligned with the BMW Oracle wing-sail platform, the configuration that ultimately won the Match. This milestone marked the shift toward aero-hydrodynamic integration in Cup design culture.
