Insight by computation.

Milovan worked for over 40 years as researcher, professor of fluid dynamics, and developer of CFD software. He is well known for both his contributions to the development of advanced CFD methods and for teaching CFD and its application in engineering. At Caponnetto-Hueber he is contributing to the development of a deeper insight into various flow phenomena by using advanced simulation techniques like DNS and LES.

  • DNS and LES of flow around hydrofoil sections – searching for ventilation paths.
  • Assessment of performance of RANS models – comparison with DNS and LES.
  • DNS and LES of free-surface flows – capturing of ventilation events.

Fields of Expertise

  • Fluid dynamics.
  • Computational methods for fluid dynamics.
  • Turbulence.
  • Cavitation.

2010 — BMW Oracle Wing Sail (AC33 Winner)

2010 — Hydrodynamic Workstreams Supporting the BMW Oracle Wing Sail Era (AC33)

During the 33rd America’s Cup cycle, Mario Caponnetto contributed to hydrodynamic assessment workstreams aligned with the BMW Oracle wing-sail platform — the configuration that ultimately won the Match. This milestone marked the shift toward aero-hydrodynamic integration in Cup design culture.
